Key Points About Alex
About Alex
Alex Byrnes is a Speech Pathologist at Progress Pathways’ Kedron clinic, having completed her Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) at The University of Queensland. She brings a genuine passion for supporting children and families, with a strong focus on making therapy positive, playful and child-led.
Alex has gained hands-on experience working with children from infancy through to school age across private practice, hospital and community settings. Her clinical experience includes assessment and intervention for speech and language delays, social communication, early literacy and phonological awareness, as well as working within multidisciplinary teams.
Alex believes that the best outcomes come from strong partnerships with families. She prioritises family-centred care, collaborative goal setting and creating sessions that children look forward to, helping them build confidence and enjoyment in their communication journey.
Alex's Strengths
At Progress Pathways, we believe in leveraging our team members' strengths. Each team member completes a CliftonStrengths analysis within their first week on our team.
Alex’s strengths support her calm, reassuring presence in therapy sessions, helping children and families feel comfortable from their very first visit to our Kedron clinic. She naturally tunes in to each child’s communication needs and emotional cues, allowing her to create sessions that are supportive, motivating and individualised.
She brings a thoughtful and organised approach to speech pathology, carefully planning sessions that target each child’s goals while remaining flexible to follow their interests. This helps children stay engaged and excited to participate in therapy.
Alex’s ability to encourage and celebrate progress helps children build confidence in their communication skills, particularly those who feel anxious or frustrated when words are hard to find. Families across Brisbane North value her steady, caring approach and clear communication.
Alex has experience supporting children with diagnoses including:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Speech and Language Delays
- Social Communication Difficulties
- Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
- Early Literacy and Phonological Awareness Difficulties
Alex also loves supporting children who may not have a diagnosis, but who benefit from having support in the following areas:
- Late talking or delayed first words
- Difficulty following instructions or understanding language
- Speech that is unclear or difficult to understand
- Trouble expressing needs, ideas or emotions
- Social communication challenges with peers or siblings
- Early reading, spelling or phonics difficulties at school
- Reduced confidence speaking in class or group settings
- Frustration, behaviour or emotional regulation challenges linked to communication difficulties
These are some of the most common concerns families search for when looking for paediatric occupational therapy support, and Alex is passionate about helping children thrive in all of these areas.
